Yes, you can paste a .jpg file, or a .png file and possibly other formats:
Open or create a score.
Open a folder/directory/whatever-your-OS-calls-it containing images.
Drag file onto score.
I don't know which version of MS you are using or which operating system but this certainly works with MS version 1.2, ubuntu 12.04.
