mixer is too long, too many instruments
Is there some way to remove/hide instruments in the Mixer? If I add a violin, I get 3 instruments: Vln, Vln pizz, and Vln trem. I rarely use the pizz and the trem. Same for all string instruments. So I'm scrolling thru an unnecessarily long list in order to mute or solo someone at the bottom of the list.
It be nice to remove the ones I don't want for this score.

Currently no way to do this. A future version of MuseScore might allow you to organize how the instruments are presented.

I think there must be a bug, because the last time I tried opening the mixer it only showed the instruments that I had on the stave. I was surprised, but didn't understand why.
When I try today, frustration sets in again as I have to go to google to fail at finding an answer.

Welcome!
How many Instruments are there in the score? (Press 'I' to see)
Could you attach here your score?
Use the "File attachments" option at the bottom of the page, just above the Save and Preview buttons when you're typing your post. Click on Choose a file
Not sure if this is possible but it'd be cool if let's say for violin, the mixer started out as having channel for violin. Then if or when a person uses pizzacato for violin, then a second channel would appear. .. just a thought

There was recent discussion about doing that in the mixer and having a check box to show every channel if you want. I thought that was a good idea.
For strings, instead of having 2 different instruments " violin" and "violincello" with 6 different channels in the mixer, one could choose the "strings" instrument instead. This way, you have both bass and treble clef for 2 different string instrument parts with half the channels (3 channels)....then , I change the channel sounds to "violin" for one channel, "cello" for the second, and "viola" or whatever else for the third to optimize the max amount of different string instruments with the least amount of channels....that and "brass" is good to use as an instrument that only has one channel for brass that you can change to "trumpet" or "trombone" that has 2 clefs (treble and bass) as well. Hope that helps

Thank you. I'm revealing my limited knowledge of Musescore, but: where is the "strings" instrument, please? I only see a choice list consisting of the normal stringed instruments.

enter 'string' in the search field of that dialog, or use 'All Instruments'

I believe Strings was added in version 2.2 so it won't be in previous versions.

re-added, to be precise
sometimes I also will combine a bassoon part by having a "bassoon" sound assigned to the tremelo channel or third channel of the instrument "viola or "violacello" and add staff text for tremelo that I can assign to a voice if I want bassoon instead of cello for certain parts. Then I have the bassoon panned slightly off center to the right and the cello about halfway right or left. Then have the reverb for cello or viola about as much as the violin (with as much reverb as it can do without sounding bad for the strings). Then have a little reverb for bassoon to separate the sounds better
