Audio Malfunction During Playback

I am using MuseScore version 1.2 on Ubuntu 13.04 Raring Ringtail.

The issue I am having is with playback. When I finish entering in the notes, then click play to see how it sounds, the audio is very choppy, there is some static, and the audio is delayed. I essentially cannot tell how the music sounds at all.

When the problem first started, the only way to get it to stop was to let the piece play all the way through, then start it over from the beginning. Now that doesn't even help, and I have had no success in fixing the problem.

Meanwhile, welcome aboard.
Try varying the synthesizer settings (reverb).
It could also be a memory problem? Stop unnecessary processes.
