Marching Bass Drums Unison Hit Notation
I would like to notate a unison hit for all bass drums in the piece I am writing. I'm looking for something like this:

I am using timpani for the part and just renamed the staff, so that may be the cause of my problem. I tried going into the note heads palette and using the half slash head, but it doesn't affect the note head in any way.
I don't care about playback at all. I just want it notated correctly. Is this a problem with the staff being for timpani? If so, what other percussion instrument could I use for the staff (one that has a five-line staff, doesn't need to have any particular clef, because I'll just be changing it to neutral clef anyway)?

Are you actually using timpani in this part? If not, then I suspect the most straightforward way would be to use a drumset as the instrument, then right click the staff to edit drumset , then define a note like this. As well as whatever other notes you intend to use.
