Volta Length
When you use repeat bars, is it possible to extend the volta beyond a single measure?

Yes. See Line or Volta in the Handbook. Basically, double click then shift arrow.

Hi
I see this issue seems to have come up before - so I'll add onto the post to see if there was a fix.
My problem is not with the notation - I can get the volta to show however long I need (as long as it's on the same line) on the score. In this instance I want it to cover 2 bars so that the repeat picks up at the next position.
The problem is playback - which is important to me as I'm using it as a practice tool so need the MIDI playback to mirror what the music says.
When I double click the volta I do get the extendable handles - and I can pull it to the right to make it longer. However the dotted line is still attached to the end of the first bar and I need it to attach to the end of the 2nd - otherwise MuseScore plays the 2nd bar before moving on to the position after the repeat. I've tried every which round to try to make it work but I can't get the playback to miss both bars - only the first one.
I've searched through the manual etc and only find that it states that it can be extended using the mouse and the ctr - arrow - and that works for the score only not the playback.
Has anyone else had this problem or got a solution?
Hope someone has the answer.
Thanks
Chris

Just read the reply above yours or the manual. 'Shift-arrow' is the answer...
There is no mention of Ctrl-arrow.

When I first started using MuseScore for lead sheets, I hardly used the playback feature, so I dragged all voltas into position by click/drag. This works ok for printing out a score, as anyone who plays the lead sheet *sees* the actual position of the voltas.
In your case, for using MuseScore as a practice tool, you want MuseScore to play correctly, so you have to set the logical position (shown by those dotted lines) by Shift + right or left arrow. This is what the playback engine *sees*.
So, for voltas:
You can click on a volta (it turns blue) and drag the whole thing with the mouse up/down/sideways without changing its logical position.
You can double click on a volta (turns blue with handles showing) and drag either handle sideways. The left/right arrow keys do the same for the selected (filled in blue square) handle. Again, the logical position (for playback) is not changed.
You can double click on a volta and use Shift + right or left arrow. This is what changes the logical position of the start or end of the volta, depending on which handle you move. Playback in MuseScore honors the logical position.
Lines behave similarly, although the handbook page (http://musescore.org/en/handbook/line) uses the phrase 'anchor position' as opposed to 'logical position'.
Regards.

Well you could blow me down. I'd thought Id tried that before and it hadn't worked - I had read the manual where it said what to do - just it hadn't worked and had stayed fixed to the end of the first bar. So it seems to be the difference between control arrow and shift arrow. Control arrow does move it but not the logical position for playback - shift arrow sorted it in an instant.
Just goes to show the power of a forum when you can fix a misunderstanding so easily.
Thanks for the replies guys.

Many score elements (even note heads) can be re-positioned by double clicking on them to enter edit mode. (The status bar displays 'Edit mode' at the very bottom of the MuseScore screen.)
As you might have discovered for your volta, in edit mode, you can move the handles in different increments by using arrow, for moving a space; or Ctrl+arrow, for 1/10th; or Alt+arrow, for 1/100th.

Yesss! "You can double click on a volta and use Shift + right or left arrow." I had given up on finding an answer to this until reading your reply. Thank you, Jm6stringer!!

It is in the handbook too ;-)

Yes, but sometimes a redundant, verbose (sometimes bombastic), custom crafted forum answer - along with attachments/examples (whenever necessary) - is more apt to drive home the point!
