Note select colour is black

When I click on a note to select it no longer turns blue, which makes it very hard to tell which note I've selected. When I select a bar the rectangle around it is black.

I also have a problem where every time I load MuseScore the canvas colour is automatically set to black. I don't know if this is related or not.
