Thank you. How do i get this to appear on all the pages of the score, not just the first page?

The Short Instrument Name, if set, always appears on all but the 1st System (the 1st System shows the Long Instrument Name)

thank you. apparently i have not explained the problem clearly. The difficulty is not name,or long or short name, the problem is that on all but the first page the NUMBER of the instrument seems not to appear; how do i get the number, e.g. 1, 2, 3 to appear on all the pages?

I don't get it, the short Instrument Name is what should contain that number. Please share the score
Are you talking about (linked) parts maybe? Whete the partnema appears in the top left corner of the title frame? If so use "$:partName:" in Header or footer

the instrument number appears on the first page of the initial score, but does not appear on the subsequent pages, only the name of the instrument appears on the subsequent pages. is this not clear?

No, not without seeing the score. As I said, the short instrument name should appear on all but the 1st System, so if it would contain the Instrument number, it would show that on all pages. But apparently you're seeing something different, that's why I'd need to see the score to understand.
But check the attached

Are you wanting the name of the the instrument to appear on the top of each page for the part rather than before each system in the score?
If so then extract the part. Click on the part tab and open the style->General dialog form the menu. Click "Headers, Footers, Numbers". Check Header text and enter the meta tag $:Violin 1 in the header for the first violin and so forth for each part.

"$:partName:", or "Violin 1" but sure not "$:Violin 1"
In reply to "$:partName:", or "Violin 1" by Jojo-Schmitz
$:partName resulted in "partName" being at the top of my page when I was checking the feature, so I tried $:Double Bass, which worked. I see now the $: is not necessary if you use text. I also realize the meta tag is $:partName: I missed the end colon before. You can enter it on one part, and click the apply to all parts button so you don't have to do it 3 times.

"S:partName:", you forgot the trailing :
However, we still don't know what Philip is realy after

True, I would be nice to understand what Phillip wants.

Hi all.
@ Philip Ellis Foster, As in the attachment?
For the *score* - right click a staff, open Staff Properties, click in the "Short instrument name" box, and type the name you would like to appear. This will appear on all pages of the score, right where you would expect - to the left of the staff.
For *parts*, it's not really clear *where* you'd like this to appear. I'd guess maybe in the header or footer. So enter the info in Style / General / Header, Footer, Numbers.
