Drum notation - 16th note kick drum notes

• Feb 2, 2014 - 10:30

Hi all,

I am quite new to Musecore, so apologies for my lack of knowledge at this point in time.

When I use the 5 line drum set stave (and 3) it seems that I am unable to put the last 16th note into the kick drum section.

I am writing a number of different grooves and naturally, on occasion, there is a kick drum on the 'a' of 4 (4 e + a).

For some reason, no matter the groove pattern in that bar I am unable to place a kick drum there. When I attempt to do so it either place it on the 'e', '+' or on '1' of the next bar.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Cheers.

...to do would be to check all the note durations in the kick drum voice for the bar in question.
MuseScore automatically advances to the next bar only when the current bar is fully populated with the nominal/actual amount of notes/rests.

Alternatively, you can post the score (or even an excerpt) with the problematic bars. Specify what you wish to see, so someone can compare what's on your score to what you wish to enter.

Welcome aboard.

I've just downloaded 1.3 today and I'm try to create a very similar notation as the O.P. above

You can see an example of what would make me happy in the musescore help

http://musescore.org/en/handbook/drum-notation

on beat 4& in the first measure on the bottom voice, an 1/8 rest followed by an 1/8 note.

Following the guides for multiple voices, Either I get my 4& added to my 4th beat quarter for the top beat, or I get 2 1/8 rests and forced into the next measure. If I use the Left arrow to go back to the 4th beat, it won't let me enter a note for that 4& position. I've also followed the guide for drum kit as well, as the video. None of these address this case directly.

can some kind soul write out directions on how to create that first measure? Or is my error trying to do this all "voices" 1 measure at a time. Should I go thru and do the whole phrase for high-hat and then add the kick drum as voice 2?

Thanks

Should work to do it in whatever order you like. I generally do it one measure at a time, one voice at a time within the measure. So in this case:

1) click drum staff
2) N to enter Note Input mode
3) enter cymbal notes on voice 1: click appropriate icon in palette, 4, click staff one note at a time
4) add the snare hits: click snare, click appropriate spot in staff
5) move cursor back to beginning of measure
6) switch to voice 2, enter those notes: click palette icon, 5, click staff, click rest, click staff, 4, click rest (to turn it off), click staff twice, click rest, click staff, click rest (to turn it off), click staff

You don't say what goes when you try entering that last note - you say MuseScore "won't let you" enter it, but it works fine for me when I click that spot in the staff.

In the attached image I have highlighted the relative colors;
- Look at the boxes of the voices : they changes accordingly.

- Highlight a note in the "Notes entry" bar, one click, you can change the duration of the note.
