transposing
even when i have selected the entire piece, "transpose" is still not highlighted and i cannot choose it as an option! what am i doing wrong?

You have somthing(s) selected that do not include notes. You may very well be in edit mode. If you double click a note head it will be in edit mode so you can move the head, but you will not be able to transpose it.
Not sure which "Transpose" you mean - under the "Notes" menu? It's actually enabled even with nothing selected. As mentioned, the only thing that would normally prevent it is if you are in Edit mode - if you've double-clicked a single a single element rather than selecting something. or if you are in the middle of playback. Maybe you are talking about something else? If you are still having trouble, best to attach your score and describe exactly what you are trying to do.
