changing measures for pause and restart of music playback
I'm a complete musecore newbie, please bear with me...
This is an edit to my questions about changing playback location because I found helpful info in the 'Sound and playback' chapter of the musescore handbook.
One problem I'm still having is that the previous chord backspace key does not work going back over frilly annotations such a trills, etc.
Is this a bug or is there something else I should be doing?
Thanks in advance...

Select a note with the mouse
press the Space bar: starts the playback

Also try this trick:
Select a note, press the N key on the keyboard and then the space bar. Starts the playback;
Press the Space bar, stops the playback;
Press the Space bar the playback starts from the selected note.

Selecting a note with the mouse has been most useful. Thanks so much!
(the previous answer becomes useless)
Click on the chord name (?), it becomes blue;
AltGr + Spacebar brings to the previous note.
(if that's what you mean)
