How to remove ghost voice 1 rests
Hello everyone
In the attached score, there is a voice 1, but there is also a set of rests that MuseScore identifies as voice 1 as well. These rests do not affect playback, but I would like to have them removed. Yes, I can make the rests invisible, but AFAIK they should not be there anyway, because there is already a "voice 1".
Any ideas?
Thanks

Always use Voice 1, Voice 2 if Needed, and so on ...

Thanks. I have read that the voice 1 rests could not be removed, but I had thought that that applied only to instances where voice 1 has no notes. I did not realise that it meant that voice 1 would always have both notes and rests simultaneously.

You used Voices 3 and 4 instead of 1 and 2.
Got the trick ... it is child's play ;-)
Buona musica!

But surely tenor and bass should be voice 3 and 4, no? If both soprano and tenor are voice 1, then I can't mute either soprano or tenor during playback (because they'll always play together).

No. MuseScore provides up to four voices per staff, but most staves should need only 1 or 2 voices, and they all must start with voice 1.
Playback is something else entirely. I guess by "mute" you mean you want to select all notes in the soprano part and uncheck the Play property in the Mixer? You can still do that. You just need to do the two staves separately. For example, to solo only the soprano part, first silence everything on the bottom staff by selecting its contents, press "Notes" in Inspector, then unchecking the "Play" property, and then do the same thing in the top staff except this time exclude voice 1 from the selection using the Selection Filter before hitting "Notes" in the Inspector. You can also achieve the same result by right clicking any alto notes, Select / More, then checking both "Same staff" and "Same voice".

No, each stave uses Voice 1 (2 if necessary etc.). Use the mixer in the score that I have attached above, to try,

You used voices 1&2 on the top staff.
The bottom staff can also use voices 1&2, regardless of the top staff.
Any staff can have up to 4 voices.
Voice 1 gets used first - to fill the (voice 1) rests in the (blank) staff.
Thereafter, use voices 2,3,4 as needed.
Regards.
