Time signature change
Hi from a newby
I composed a salsa piece in 4/4 but my teacher suggests that it would be better in common time for ease of reading (ie quavers instead of semi-quavers). When I change the time signature it doesn't change the notes. I wondered if there is a way of changing the note values of the entire piece automatically to common time without having to start again. I hope this makes sense!
Thanks

Common time is 4/4, so you haven't made a change really. That's why the notes are the same. Probably still quarter notes. Try 2/2 or 8/8. Not sure which, since I don't understand the quaver and semi-quaver.

Even that would not change and note duration
I think you may have misunderstood, or your teacher may have misspoke - as mentioned common time is just another word for 4/4. Probably you really want cut time. But indeed, this won't change notate durations either. I'm afraid you'll basically need to re-enter the music. There is/was a plugin to attempt the conversion, but as far as I know there is not currently a version that works reliably enough to be worthwhile.
