Save to Score / MS 2.2 new Soundfont question

Before I move from MuseScore 2.1 to 2.2 (and the new soundfont, which I'm looking forward to!), I have a concern about playback.
I have a number of scores that I use for playback in music lessons using the older soundfont. I have the F10 mixer adjusted so that a given velocity provides a balanced sound for all instruments. For instance, in the old soundfont, if trumpets and horns are both at a velocity of 80, with the mixer setting the same for both, the trumpets are much louder than the horns, so I have their mixer set lower than the horns.
Assuming the new soundfont has better (or different, if not better) leveling across the instruments, how can I keep my scores sounding proper without having to adjust the mixer settings for each after installing MS 2.2?
I'm guessing that the Save to Score function in the Synthesizer might be the key to this? Would the approach be to use Save to Score for each score before installing MS 2.2? Would I then have to Load from Score the first time (or every time?) I open that score in 2.2?
The Save to Score function in the Handbook Synthesizer page is a little light on details. It says you can "You can save a particular configuration of settings" but which settings are saved is not detailed. Is it referring to the Master Effects tab, the Tuning tab, the order of listed soundfonts, or all?
Or, should it be a different approach? Maybe upgrading to 2.2, but instead of adjusting any old scores, go into the Synthesizer, move the new soundfont to the bottom of the list and Set as Default so that the original SF's stay in place?
Another option would be to bite the bullet- If I upgrade and play one score with the new SF, and go into the F10 mixer and tweak until it sounds good, then those settings should be fine for all of my scores.

My worst-case scenario is that for some reason, I may have to manually adjust the Mixer, or the Synthesizer, for all of my scores, which would be a huge task. Maybe I'm over-thinking this, but better safe than sorry.

Aside from the soundfont, the synthesizer code has had some changes as well; so using the same soundfont as in 2.1 might still lead to your scores sounding different (likely 'brighter').

If you don't need to continue development on these scores and their playback is that important to you; I'd advise you to download the portable version of MuseScore 2.1.
The only thing you'd have to remember is which score to open in which MuseScore version.
