That method puts two syllables under one note but does not
put the connecting rounded little line between.

I never knew what that was called. When you are ready to enter it, press F2 and look for the symbol. It's listed under common symbols after the fractions if your font supports it. The standard fonts that come with MuseScore DO support it. Double click the symbol to insert it.

Synalepha, HTH

That gets the rounded symbol but not the space that should be above it.

What you mean by 'above it'?
Can you add an image of what you'd like to see?

Maybe the little curved line is not to be below a "space" character?

compares it with the slur between two notes...

You should write sentences to be understood.

The Synalefe topic has been discussed on these pages for several years. Since English is not my mother tongue, maybe you should look for it on the site or wait for a more exhaustive and detailed answer.
I'm afraid I can't do better ;-)

This is just 2 syllables under 2 notes and a tie or slur.

No, two syllables under one note
I can't understand a lot of the writing in people's answers, but
The way I described it works. Thanks for all the attempted help.

If you use the Elision there's no need for an extra space. That symbol near the end of the palette is mainly for 1.x compatibility and may need a space before and after, or only one, one even none, depending on the font used, and even may not work at all. Better avoid it altogether and just use one of the 3 elisions between the C-Clef and the p dynamic, which are new in MuseScore since it got changed to use SMuFL, so basically ever since 2.0 came out

Hello hill0093: You wrote:

Regarding understanding on the MuseScore forum:
English may not be the primary language of some who either ask questions, or respond with answers. So, their grammar or spelling may not be 'perfect'.
Some may use a machine translator (e.g. Bing or Google) in order to post on the English language forum, where there may be more activity - and a faster turnaround - than using their native language forum.
For others, there is always the pesky typographical error.
For example, look at the title of this thread: "how to make synphelia" --- what's 'synphelia'?
Simple. It's a typo for 'elision'. (You see what I just did there? ;-)
People's humor may not be understood. (See #3.)
As multiple questions and answers populate any given thread, confusion can arise as to who is answering whom. Those webpage indentations - made for clarity - only work up to a point.
This reply you are presently reading is to your post that begins: No, two syllables under one note...
When it is posted, it may get physically listed where it's not such an obvious reply.
Regards.
So what step of https://musescore.org/en/handbook/lyrics#elision you don't understand or doesn't work as documented?

Shoichi's attachment, 'Synalepha Test.mscz', includes an image of the Special Characters (F2) with the elision (i.e. synalepha) highlighted. It also has a mini-tutorial with instructions.
The character mike320 refers to (listed after the fractions) behaves differently: it does not leave any space above it (as does the elision).
As hill0093 states: That gets the rounded symbol but not the space that should be above it.
Regards.

That is why step 3 enters that missing space.
The 3 elisons (Narrow elison, Elison, Wide elison) in the F2 palette don't need that though, only the undertie (and the overtie too).

Yes, the symbols behave differently:

Yes, therefor now mentioned in the handbook ;-)
I believe this might have been a carry-over from the MuseScore 1.x handbook

Here is how I would now describe the process:
To get two syllables at one note,
go to the place for the lyric for that note, then
1:type the first syllable
2:get the character table by pressing f2
3:double-click the low rounded character for the synalepha
4: x-out of the character table
5:type ctrl+space(simultaneously)
6:type the second syllable
In reply to Here is how I would now… by hill0093
The handbook combines your step 2 and 3 and commits your step 5, which is not strictly needed. And even your step 4 is not needed when taking one of the 3 elisons rather than the undertie
