How to unlink staves to create systems of 3 staves each.

• May 3, 2018 - 07:13

This is for a method book, The Ensemble Method for Violin by Oscar Lehrer (imslp.org). Instrument has 3 possible voices to play and is meant to be played together. I can put the staves down on the "create a new score" option with as many staves as I want but they are all linked. I want to know how to unlink the staves so that I can have systems of 3 each connected with a bracket. I am arranging this method to include viola and cello as well.

What do you mean by but they are all linked?
You can have one violin staff with 3 voices, one violin part with 3 staves or 3 violin staves/parts.
You can also add linked staves, but this doesn't make any sense for violins, much more so for guitars, with a normal and a tab staff.

If you have more than one staff, you can connect them with a bracket from the brackets palette.

I also wonder what you mean by ...they are all linked. ?

If you use three staves for a single violin and mute that violin in the mixer, nothing plays. So, in that way you can consider them 'linked'.

If you want control over each staff, select three violins, not one.

Also...
Brackets can be found in the Brackets palette. Select the 'Advanced' workspace instead of 'Basic'.
