Cortana shows up when I try to display or redock Palettes F9 or Inspector F8
Somehow Palettes got undocked from the left side of my screen and Inspector got undocked from the right. I'd like to redock both. I can open a floating version of both by clicking on their names; however, F9 and F8 open Cortana? I'm on Windows 10. Suggestions?

Double click at the top (where it says 'Inspector') of the undocked Inspector to re-dock.
Same for Palettes.

Single clicking or double clicking at the top of the undocked item turns it from gray to blue, but it doesn't dock. Clicking on the red X closes the item completely. F8 and F9 bring up Cortana. All very weird.

Try dragging the undocked Palette to the left and up to the toolbar (near the note entry 'N' symbol), then release.

That did it! YaHOOO! A window opened underneath to drop the palette into. Did the same for the Inspector. Thanks, JM! <3
Continuing on, I can open the other items by checking the boxes, but the F keys don't work for me. Shift F doesn't work either. This is curiosity mostly, since I have a workaround. How do I operate the F keys? And why on earth does Cortana open when I press F8 or F9?

Do you by chance have a function key lock located to the right if F12? I don't know what effect that would have on Cortana vs Musescore. I usually realize I have the lock turned of when I can't refresh my browser. I use Windows 10, but I've disabled Cortana so I have no experience with it.

Every computer keyboard is configured differently, but my guess is that your particular keyboard was designed so that pressing F8 would either function normally as F8 or it would start Cortana, depending on whether you have the Fn key enabled. On my computer, F8 is either F8 or "PrtScn", says so right on the key. Anyhow, that's a question for the manufacturer of your computer and/or Microsoft; there is nothing MsueScore would be doing to cause that.

My son, who is much brighter than I am, showed me the Function key and it's corresponding lock on the Escape key of my Dell laptop. I would have never figured it out! All is well now. Cortana and corresponding functions of the F keys are turned off. I never use them anyway. Back to my comfort zone. Just me and MuseScore for the rest of the afternoon.
Thanks, Mike and Marc. Two thumbs UP for both of you!
