Fingering

In fingering, is there is a way to indicate in the score that one is to change to a different finger while still holding the note down?

This is useful for helping the reader to correctly reposition the hand to then be able to reach the next notes while still tying to the original note being held down by a different finger.

In old sheet music I have of Chopin this is indicated by placing the two fingering numbers in sequence, starting with the original finger, followed by the next one, with a tie symbol over the two numbers, as in tying two notes together, to show that the note is to be held down while the fingers are switched.

I would appreciate any ideas.

I had noted the editing option - using a dash will work. I was hoping to figure out a way to place a special symbol like a "tie" mark, but the dash is a definite workable answer. Thanks so much.

I did use the editing feature for another fingering trick, so emphasize a tie. I used several dashes and a "greater than" symbol to carry the fingering notation across from one chord to another as in creating an arrow. This is also an option in place of a simple dash, and I believe I have seen a formal arrow symbol used before in sheet music for this purpose.

MuseScore rocks!
