Soundfonts
In an effort to fix an issue on an old (prior to V.2.2) score I re-uploaded it several times. In that process the original sound was lost at musescore.com. It sounds fine locally using the Mellow Yamaha Grand with the MuseScore_General.sf3 soundfont which has been saved to the score. However, when the score is uploaded it has a very different sound when played back from musescore.com. What am I missing? Do I need to contact musescore.com about this issue?

You need to also upload the audio, export to MP3
6. (As of version 2.1) If you are using a different SoundFont than the default one and if you are able to export MP3 files, a checkbox Upload score audio will be visible:
If the checkbox is checked, MuseScore will render the audio of the score using the current synthesizer settings and upload the audio to MuseScore.com.

A checkbox "Upload score audio" is not visible so I guess I am unable to export MP3 files.

MuseScore 2.2 on Windows can export Mp3 out of the box. If that dialog doesn't show this got to mean that you are using the default soundfont, MuseScore_General.sf3, or that you are using MuseScore 2.1 or older.

That's incorrect, Jojo. If you are using the 2.2 default soundfont, "MuseScore_General.sf3", File->Export->Save As MP3 works without problems in Windows.

No, it is not, export Mp3 is independent from soundfont used, and indeed works in musescore 2.2 on Windows out of the box

This statement (phrase) is what I consider incorrect or confusing, because, as said, when anyone uses on MuseScore 2.2 the export to MP3 function, it works even if you use the default (MuseScore_General.sf3) soundfont.

To see that dialog 2 conditions need to be met, one is always met on Windows and MuseScore 2.2, the MP3 export ability, so if you still don't see the dialog, it got to be the other condition not being met, using a non-default soundfont, IOW using the default soundfont.

yes, yes, but what your posts wrongly suggests is that using the default (MuseScore_General) soundfont would be a reason for the dialog don't showing! :-D

And indeed using the default soundfont is a reason for that dialog not showing, one of 2 possible reasons.
That dialog only shows when using a non-default soundfont and you have the ability to export MP3

Using the default 2.2 or 2.2.1 soundfont, MuseScore_General.sf3 is a reason to a failing save as MP3 (Export)?? how could it be possible? I use 2.2.1 and this soundfont, and export to MP3 without problems.

Jojo, got it. Disregard my above remarks.... I thought you were refering to the File/Export to MP3 option.
Indeed, if you use the default soundfont, then the "Save Audio" checkbox in Save Online will not appear, yes.

The former, "Save Audio" (in File->Save Online), which Shoichi talks about. The latter always shows (but fails if the lame lib is missing)

Whew!... The confusing use and/or meaning of the word 'export'.
Exporting (uploading) to musescore.com is different from exporting (saving as) an mp3.

Hi HMS,
-Regarding the "export to MP3" thing: Using File->Export... , you should have the option to export the score to MP3 audio. See the attached print screen.
1)If you are using the MS 2.2.1 default soundfont, the "MuseScore_General.sf3", in your MuseScore - then the "Save Audio" checkbox is not present (when you do a "File->Save Online"). It seems that the "musescore.com" website uses this one soundfont, but (I too) observed that it sounds a bit different compared to the one in the MuseScore application.
2) If you are simply uploading your score via the website (the Upload button in musescore.com), then the playback in musescore.com would likely respect your Mixer settings (that are saved anyway with the score when you saved it in your computer). But the playback, as said, will use the musescore.com soundfont.
Anyway, just for be sure, do this: do to "View"->"Synthetiser", and do a "Save To Score", and then, Save your score too again. This way, when you upload the score, at least the "musescore.com" playback should obey any customized synth. settings (and mixer settings) you did in your score. If you used the Mellow piano, the playback at musescore.com should use the Mellow piano too.
