Easier way to solo instruments on playback
Hi guys,
I just recently tried MuseScore and I‘m still amazed about how professional it is already. I used Sibelius (from version 2 to 7) for many years, abandoned it when Avid took over and introduced that new pricing model. I tried Notion and even Dorico. But MuseScore does so many things so well and easy, that I barely miss anything from the other apps. Well done!
That out of the way, I‘d love to see an easier way to solo instruments in playback. A feature I really miss. It‘s a bit cumbersome to alway use the mixer when I want e.g. to just solo a few bars of a certain instrument. I‘m using it for vocal music only, so having an easier way to do this would be most welcome.
In Sibelius one could simply mark the bars you wanted to solo, press play... and voila. Or even solo two instruments by selecting the according bars. Such a good way to quickly compare or combine different voices...
It would be lovely to have an easier way, like e.g. in Sibelius, of doing this, so using the mixer can be avoided.
Cheers,
Darian

Hello,
There is some other similar topics/feature requests (I cannot re-find them by now)
A workaround is to create Parts (in menu "File" -> Parts), for each instrument or by combinating each with another. See: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/parts
So, you have just to toggle the tabs, launch playback for entire instrument (or by selecting a few measures and launch playback)
You talk about vocal music. See this example (and the parts created, eg): 1Bach_chorale_2__Ach_Gott.mscz

Thanks for your reply, cadiz1.
While that might be a workaround for single instruments, it makes combining instruments or voices (let‘s say soprano and alto, or soprano and bass, or alto and tenor, or all but soprano) still annoying.
Plus, without being able to try it since I‘m not at my Mac, finding my way around the score is easier while looking at the whole score (all instruments) instead of just looking at parts. I‘m writing / arranging vocal pop pieces for 4-5 voices, so seeing a lot of „dm dm dm ts“ on a bass part or „Ooh“ and „doo“ on other voices doesn’t automatically give me a clue where I am in a score.
I‘ll try using parts as a workaround for now, but I‘m sure it‘s not the solution I‘m after.
Cheers,
Darian

Just tried on Sibelius 7-5: I agree, it would be a very nice feature.

I know ;) I used that all the time. Let‘s see how the devs think about it.
