Deleting measures
Whenever I attempt to delete a measure that has a dotted half rest in it (I'm in 3/4), it just makes the dotted half rest invisible. How can I get rid of measures?

Select the measure, then press ctrl (Mac: cmd) + Del.
Indeed, Ctrl+Del or Cmd+Del is the way to delete a measure. But I'm confused by the question - the only thing that would make a dotted half rest or anything else invisible is pressing "V". Pressing Delete by itself would not make a rest invisible, it would replace it with a full measure rest. Could be you were actually successfully removing the measure but then the next measure had the invisible rest and showed up in its place? If you continue to have trouble, please attach your score and precise steps to reproduce the problem.

Starting with (i believe) 2.2, someone thought it was a good idea to have the delete key turn rests in voice 1 invisible. It requires that each rest be selected, not a range. I didn't and still don't think this was such a good idea.

Confuses me too sometimes

I've noticed the same.
Also...
If View -> Show Invisible is (accidentally) left unticked, the measure appears completely empty - contrary to the well established 'prime directive' of always having voice 1 show something.
Regards.

Ouch. I agree. I vaguely remember the discussion leading to this - it was intended to do smart things in a multivoice context. But to me this particular behavior doesn't sound smart :-(

Ah, OK, it's not quite as bad as I feared. Yes, if you select the rest itself and press delete, it turns invisible. Useful in some case, not so much in others. But if you select the measure itself, it still works as except - it clears the contents of the meausre, replacing it with a full measure rest. So it remains true that if you want to fully delete a measure, select it and press Ctrl+Delete; if you want to clear it, select it and press Delete.

Indeed. I was part of that initial discussion.
We used to have quite a lot of posts for starting multi-voice users that they couldn't "delete" voice 1 rests as they could for other voices. The idea is that rather than the Delete key "not working" it seemed/seems that the intent in the action is quite obvious, which is why turning that rest invisible is very likely the desired end result.
While I had my reservations about this, from a consistency point of view; in this specific case for me, I agreed to the proposed change and indeed have noticed a decrease in forum topics about this behavior since 2.2 was released.
