distortion on playback
Musescore 2.2.1
OS: OS X Mountain Lion (10.8), Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore version (64-bit): 2.2.1, revision: 51b8386
This started happening suddenly and without warning, and continues 95% of the time.
On playback of a score, there is continuous crackling randomised, averaging about 10 times per second.
I have re-downloaded and reinstalled the font MuseScore_General.sf3, restarted the computer to no avail. The discontinuities show up on the Synthesiser panel meter, and does not alter if I lower the level. Once it stopped behaving this way (restarted computer) but normally this does not help. Another clue-- I changed a piano part to drums and then back to piano (mixer window) and the crackling stopped-- but this only happened temporarily-- also ruined my score by changing the note-heads to percussion.

Turn down the velocity in Synthesizer

How do you do that? I reduced velocity of all notes in the score and it just makes the distortion softer. Likewise reducing the volume in the synthesiser just changes the volume of the distortion. I believe this is a bug of some sort.

Even at something like -40 dB?

yes, as shown in movie file I uploaded-- it also sounds like it's underwater. I will try a different sound font.

I have tried a different font (grand-piano-YDP_20160804.sf2) and it makes no difference. I have 8 gig ram installed-- so it is not a ram issue.

Did you turn down the velocity in the synthesizer or did you turn down the velocity in the inspector? Decreasing the volume of each note won't do anything about the distortion if you don't decrease it in the synthesizer
This is also happening to me - and it only started after I updated Musescore.
