In some published tablature scores, half notes and whole notes are indicated by encircling those frets marks. Sibelius and Finale have no such option, but Notion and Scoremaker ZERO do. Attached is an example from Alfred music publishing.

An initial attempt at this feature yielded this result:

However, to properly support this, it probably needs a new type of Element, rather than piggyback off Stem (since Whole and Breve durations have no stem).

Sounds good. Thank you for this initiative. The confusion with the tremolos was recurrent for the users. All the better if we can put an end to it.

Is this solved yet? As commented, the confusion with tremelo is annoying. A specially for a new bee guitarplayer en score reader like me ;-)
Nothing new. Still waiting for a developer who will have the motivation and time to implement this.

+1. Came up again at https://musescore.org/en/node/318743.
Wish that feature too...
I’m finding this to be an issue with the full tab setting too. I’ve never seen that type of notation for a half note in any published tab. IMO makes it unusable for teaching because of it creates confusion for the reader.

I just logged the same problem yesterday...
