Is there a way to change timber in mid-staff?
I'd like to keep one track for guitar and switch from clean to distorted instead of creating two tracks. Change Instrument won't work because I can't specify the timber of eletric guitar I want.

You can do a mid staff instrument change to any instrument you want, I would advise a different guitar to keep the same transposition. You can then use the mixer to change the sound of it to any timbre you like. You could even make it sound like an oboe, but you don't want to do that.

The mixer seems to be working only for the initial instrument. I guess the whole question comes down to: is it possible to change mixer settings mid-staff?

When you do a mid staff instrument change a new channel is created for the mixer. The sounds in the dropdown are mostly the names of instruments. The last channel for that instrument will be the new one and the sound for all notes from that instrument change to the next one (or the end of the score).
Be aware that the channels appear in the order of the instrument changes in the score, so if you insert a mid-staff instrument change between two others, the new mixer channel will be between the existing ones.

It worked, thanks a lot!
Sorry for choosing the wrong Forum to post that, though
