how do you score notes in a measure that above or below one note is held longer or shorter?

Basically, I am trying to score "Rainy Night House," by Joni Mitchell from a book. In the bass or treble cleft there are notes played at different duration's such as an eight note above a half not. I have to score both notes at the same value. How can I have different values on a chord?
