Unable to require an instrument to only play
I want to be able to repeat, have one instrument play solo, then on the second repeat the instrument comes through. When I simply add the bar line it skips the entire thing. Any solutions?

The playback is impossible. The proper way to notate it is the part that is played only the second time is to put text that says "Second time only" in the first measure. Since this is a piano I would put it under the bass staff to avoid ambiguity.
No, none for MuseScore playback. But a staff text telling your musicians what to do would help
