Using MS 2.3.2, MDL 1.1.

I've noticed that the bass drum ("kick drum") in MDL's drumset is set to Voice 2 by default. Any attempt to change this is unsuccessful.

Not having access to this feature means there are unnecessary rests placed in the notation, which makes the score messy and difficult to read, which discourages people from using the instrument > MDL Plug-In.
