The hyphens do work to move the next syllable to the next pitch, but they usually disappear once the syllable is moved. There should be some way of preserving the hyphen so that the lyrics are clear. This is true is English, where "ad" by itself indicates a paid sponsorship spot, and "ad here" is a full word with an entirely different meaning. It's especially important to see the hyphen for syllable division if the composer and performer are working in a foreign language; this helps keep things organized and understandable. I remember this working in the past, but now the hyphen usage seems random. See example attached.

The words are divided correctly according to normal printing standards. The problem is that your measures are too crowded for the hyphens to be seen. If you want that many measures on a system, you will not see some of the hyphens. If you put fewer measures on a system, you will see the hyphens. (BTW, you made that score in version 2.3.2 not 3).
and in 3.0 there are settings for a min. dash len.
