Jazz Chord Typing Behavior in Musescore 3

• Dec 5, 2018 - 23:15

I would like to know how to use the automatic placement correctly. Every time I grab a chord symbol, it makes the other chords around to move in a bad way (see image). Why can't I just type or move the chords and they stay consistently aligned? I also notice that when I grab a chord to place where I want, the cursor goes weird (see image). Thanks

In general, you shouldn't be needing to move them manually at all. Can you explain what you are trying to do in more detail? If you just want them all lower, change the default height in the style settings. For instance, select one, use the Inspector to increase the vertical offset, then hit the "set as style" button and all the chords will follow suit. You should only need to resort to dragging individually if you want to deliberately chords that are not aligned for some reason. To deliberately create an unaligned chord, turn off autoplacement for the chords in question (also using the Inspector). But somehow I doubt you really want that.

That's just a picture - in order to see what went wrong, we need the score itself. My guess, though, is that the other chords were ones you had previously dragged, and those manual adjustments are still being honored. To reset those, select them (or right-click one chord symbol, Select / All Similar Elements to get them all at once) and then press Ctrl+R (or use the Reset buttons in the Inspector next to the offsets).
