Editing measure one to create a pickup measure
I follow the instructions to change the number of beats in the measure to create a pickup measure but when the beats change, existing notes are replaced with rests equal to the number of beats. Why doesn't it remove the rests and change notes to equal beats per measure or else allow rests to be deleted?

If you are changing the actual duration of the measure in Measure Properties, the deleted beats disappear from the end of the measure. If you are in version 3, select a rest and press ctrl+del and the measure will be shortened by the amount of the rest.
