Musescore cannot check for updates

A musescore update is out, and to download it I was told to press Help->Check for update. However,when doing this, nothing seems to happen. I am on a school network which may be part of the problem. Any ideas on how I can get the update? For reference, I am trying to move from musescore 2 to 3.
