How to control mute settings

Can someone please tell me how to control audio and mute settings in Musescore? A simple example: I am working on a score, and I click on a note to edit it. Every time I do that, the note plays. That gets irritating very quickly. I would prefer to work in silence (and if necessary, listen to all the notes at the end). Are there basic settings to do this?
