Compression of Notes and Lyrics
It seems like MuseScore 3 does not allow the amount of compression of words and notes that MuseScore 2 was capable of when using Shift + { or }. Is this correct or is it some setting we have not found?

there is now a 'minimum lyrics dash length' which might be causing this
There were also some limitations to this in 3.0 that are addressed in 3.1. Try a nightly build, or attach your score so we can see for ourselves if there is something still getting in the way.
