How to make an instrument not visible for a little while?
I have seen many people only include an instrument when they need it, so its rests are not visible throughout the entire piece. How do you do that?

Format->Style... then check "Hide empty staves" and optionally uncheck the option below that start "Don't hide empty staves..."

For anyone interested, starting in version 3.0 you can go instrument by instrument and right click the staff, choose staff/part properties and change the Hide when empty: dropdown to read "Always". This works on an instrument by instrument basis, where the style setting applies it to all instruments. Use the right tool for the right situation.
