Compressing of notes and lyrics
I complained some time back about not being able to compress a song as much in version 3 as in version 2. I could not find my previous complaint so have started a new topic. I was requested to include files as examples and am doing just that now. This is regarding the use of (shift + { or }). The file called 2 was done in version 2 and the file called 3 was done in version 3.

When I load the "MuseScore 2" file into 3.1, it looks completely identical to how it looks when I load into 2.3.2 - eighth bars on the first system, seven on the next, one on the third. If I seect all and reset stretch, I see 3.1 was actually able to fit more bars onto the first system by default than 2.3.2 was (eight versus six). So, what I see the opposite of what you are saying. I suspect that is because you were comparing using an earlier 3.0 build and not 3.1, so I suggest you update.
Neither version will allow that last bar onto the second system using stretch alone, for the simple reason that it is already as crowded given your current style settings. So, you will need to change some setting in ither version. Easiest and most effective is probably to simply reduce staff size a little (Format / Style / Page Settings in 3.1). In 3.1, just going down to 1.7mm for the staff space allows it to fit, in 2.3.2 you'd have to go farther, because as mentioned, it's actually not as efficient by default as 3.1.
Your MsueScore 3 score does not appear to have been created from scratch using 3.1, it seems more likely to have bee the result of first imported the score from 2.x, because I can style settings are not the current defaults. But maybe they were at 3.0.2, I don't recall for sure. Anyhow, if I create a new score from scratch in 3.1 and copy in your notes, I get similar (better) results as with your first score - more measures per line by default, less stretch or page size adjustment needed to fit onto two systems than with 2.3.2.

Indeed, that MuseScore 3 file was last saved with 3.0.2
