Improve noteheads and stem symbols?

• Jun 26, 2019 - 21:31

Hi, i am a contemporary classical music composition student in university and i am currently beginning to work with extended techniques and i am having some troubles with some notations. I can sort of replace some symbols but when using more than a few extended techniques it can be confusing.

Examples:
These noteheads are not included in MuseScore.

In the case of artificial harmonics the upper notehead should always be empty like in the picture but in musescore i cant find a way to keep it empty (i mean like a half note) when using the diamond shaped notehead

This is not a notehead but a symbol, its similar to the coda symbol but i cant find a way to apply it to a single part.

This is probably more complex due to the symbol placed on the stem.

I am thinking probably it could be done the same way that when placing a tremolo but with a different symbol across the stem?

It would also be nice to be able to add an arrowhead to lines from the inspector the same way you can add begin or end hooks, like this:

The examples where taken from the book "Music Notation" by Kurt Stone and from this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cGJ-Y1EviI&t if you are interested.

Hi, i made those lines using the arrows from the master palette but their lenght cant be changed, i had to manually adjust them to make them look like that, and any change in the layout changes their position relative to each other.
Its a shame that custom noteheads cant be added, their are usual for contemporary music. But i can sort of workaround for the slap pizz for the flute by making the regular notehead invisible and dragging an accent on top of it and for the one for breathing sounds i can use another one i guess.

The empty note heads can be set in the inspector. There are two settings to help with this. Head type allows you to change to a half note's head for any note (which is probably what you want), you can also change the Head group to make it shaped like a diamond or one of several other designs that can help you make it look like you want.
