Saving should work, so this is a bug that needs fixed. The workaround is simple, use save as rather than save and you can then save the file without problems. You are the first to report this (so Frequency = once) and the severity is minor due to the simple workaround, this is not from a plugin so the type is functional.
See #289758: Save error with unrolled repeat version of score
Severity isn't minor if you lose 2 hours of really creative work like I just did...because saving an unrolled score didn't work...
It is not a blocker either. But that all doesn't really matter for a duplicate.
And that other issue is Major.
Since this issue is closed as a duplicate of the other, would you mind going to that still-open report and reporting your findings there? So far, no one else has managed to reproduce a case where it just fails silently - for the rest of us, we see an error message. So there is never a possibility of losing work normally. It could be this is a problem only on macOS, or it could be there is something else unique about your environment that caused this to happen. Either way, best to add your info (eg, a link to the video you posted to the forum) into that open issue.
