How to change the length of a beam?

I know how to change the height, angle and direction of beams. The only thing which seems impossible and is not discussed in the manual is how to change the length of a single beam. In particular, if a note is moved a little horizontally, its beam does not follow it. Neither can the length of a beam be adjusted manually even if automatic placement is switched off. Is there any way to make a beam a bit longer?
I am attaching the sample bar with the beam which does not connect the moved note. (Of course, the note had to be moved).
