I was writing a string quartet, I changed the playback sounds for the violins from slow expressive to just expressive, I also changed the volume of their tracks.

Now my program will not playback any sounds whatsoever. How am I to write a piece of music without hearing it? I'm no Beethoven.

Your score plays back fine for me. Do other scores play for you? My guess is you did something else to disable sound, whether it was muting the system volume, turning down MuseScore in the system mixer, deleting your soundfont, who knows what. See https://musescore.org/en/node/96811

I just updated to version 3 and have no playback. I was, however, able to export my score as an mp3 file and listen to it that way.
