Rap Notation Score

• Nov 11, 2019 - 03:44

Hi Everyone,

Actually, this is a question I'm passing along from someone outside the group. I couldn't find the answer. Is there a score template or flow chart in MuseScore for rap music?

I haven't been able to find any yet. I've posted an example below of what they want. I think the idea is to have a beat line that allows different time signatures, ties for word groupings, the ability to add lyrics underneath the notes, as well as rests, triplets, tempo markings, and so on. Can this be done with one of the percussion lines?

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

David

This should be doable either with a percussion instrument or just a standard one, just set the number of staff lines to 1 in Staff Properties (and choose an appropriate clef).

  1. Create new score
  2. Template: choose instruments; added a single "Voice" instrument
  3. Staff/Part Properties: change number of lines to 1, change long & short instrument names to "Rapper" and "Rap."
  4. Format → Style… → Score uncheck Hide instrument name if there is only 1 instrument
  5. Drag the French Violin Clef from the Clefs palette (Advanced workspace) onto the Treble Clef at the start of your score; this will make the clef appear on the line instead of above it
  6. Enter the correct rhtyhm (consider using rhtyhm entry mode, don't worry about your notes appearing on the wrong lines.
  7. Add your lyrics, this serves as proofreading for the entered rhtyhm as well, making sure everything aligns as it should
  8. Add system breaks where required to make the lyrics better spaced out
  9. Select all notes
  10. In the Inspector check the Fix to line option as well as setting Stem direction to up
