I just found out, that my firewall (Norton Security) causes the problem. If I turn it off, Musescor starts immediatly. Does the firewall have to be turned off during the installation process?
I don't turn off any firewall during installations, but I'm not using Norton Security either, privately I use Microsofts free Defender (which according to many tests is entirely sufficient) and at work (have to) use McAffee.
The -w commandline option doesn't help. I reinstalled MuseScore 3 and turned off the firewall during the process, but the problem still exists. When I start MuseScore it lasts about 20 seconds until I can use it. When I turn off the firewall it during the start procedure, MuseScore starts immediatly.
Another problem: when I search for an update in MuseScore, an error occurs that MuseScore can't connect to the internet.
I use Windows 7 and the latest version of MuseScore 3.
...I enabled the check for updates of plugins, too. And here seems to be a problem: when I check this option after a restart, it is unchecked again and the problem discribed above occurs again.
Jetzt habe ich es geschafft, MuseScore als Ausnahme in die Norton Firewall einzutragen (war ein wenig kompliziert). Das hat funktioniert und ich hoffe, dass es auch auf Dauer klappt. Danke für die Hilfe!

Are you using the MDL extension? If so this is normal, the huge soundfont it brings along needs to get unpacked in RAM first

Maybe using the -w commandline option helps here?

You should be able to tell your firewall to allow MuseScore to free access to the internet and computer and it would speed things up.
You could also try to disable the check for updates, in Edit > Preferences > Updates
I already disabled this option...
Okay, that's weird... I just ENABLED the check for updates and now MuseScore starts within 4 seconds... THX for your help.
