How to cancel an instrument?
I use timpani throughout the tune but need to cancel them later. I don't know how.

Not sure I understand what you mean by that, but maybe "Hide empty staves" is the answer

I USE TIMPANI THROUGHOUT THE SONG AND NEED TO CANCEL IT AT A CERTAIN SPOT. I DON'T KNOW HOIW.

cancel an instrument Press i, select-> Remove (Button in the middle column);
or select the measures press Del.

Repeating basically the same thing doesn’t make it any clearer, sorry

When you use hide empty stave, use the menu Format->Style and check the Hide empty staves box, any instrument without notes on a system will be hidden. This is how you have instruments shown in part of the score and not in other parts.
Starting in version 3.0 you could alternatively right click the staff, choose staff properties and change the setting for Hide when empty:
Always - Hide all systems that have nothing in them
Never - Never hide empty staves for this instrument
Auto - Hide according to the setting in the style menu I mentioned above (this is the default)
Instrument - Hide this staff only if all staves for this instrument (like a piano or harp) are empty.
THERE IS NO WAY TO CANCEL AN INSTRUMENT AT A CERTAIN SPOT

I'm French and ......DEAF !!!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND "CANCEL TIMPANI"
