Okay. How about 2.x? 3.0?
Of course the answer is disappointing, but it's interesting considering that beaming across measures has been available since ... 1.2? It would be stating the obvious to point out that beaming across measures is rather useless without the concomitant ability to beam across system breaks - pieces that are so structured tend to have that structure repetitively - and so I wonder why it was not considered a priority. Or was it a priority after all but deemed not feasible because of technical issues or time constraints in getting 2.0 released without further delay?

It should be technically possible but I believe the time investment hasn't been considered worth enough since it's quite a rare event in music notation. It would need some dedicated code. It also somehow apply to glissando and melisma over line break.
