Changes to strings in v3.3.4?
I recently upgraded to 3.3.4 (from 3.3.3) and noticed that non of the stringed instrument is sounding in playback anymore. If I mark one note and use arrow key to advance, I can hear it though.
Other instruments play without problem.
Was there any change to the strings?

Robert

No relevant change I'd be aware of, or that would be mentioned in the release notes

Actually in this case https://musescore.org/en/handbook/developers-handbook/release-notes/rel…
In order to understand and assist, we'd need you to attach the score that you are having problems with. Assuming you have checked the Mixer, BTW, and verified you haven't muted those staves...

Yes sure, I will do so as soon as possible.
I guess I know what the problem is. A lot of instrument patches have been replaced by " ... Expressiv" sounds, which for some reason do not sound for me. Do I need a different sound font?

Those are the default sounds, as they are the versions of the sounds that respond to single note dynamics. I suppose they might not sound if you've messed with those settings? Go to View / Synthesizer and be sure a) you have the MsueScore_General.sf3 soundfont installed, and b) the settings on the Dynamics tab are at the defaults.
I'm experiencing a similar issue after the 3.3.4 upgrade. Steps to replicate:
1. Quit and restart Musescore.
2. Open the attached file. Start playback.
3. Note in mm 1-12 that the pizzicato channel speaks (cello & contrabass), but the arco channel (violins & viola) doesn't. Also note in mm 13+ that the tremolo (violins) and arco channels (viola, cello, cb) don't speak.
4. Click the first note in m 1 of the viola part so that the f# sounds.
5. Start playback from m 1. Note that the viola arco channel now speaks.
6. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for Vln I & II. Note that the violin arco channels now speak.
7. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for Vln I & II in m 13. Note that the violin tremolo channels now speak.
8. Repeat steps 4 & 5 for Cello & Cb m 13. Note that their arco channels now speak.
I've followed the instructions at https://musescore.org/en/node/290616 and https://musescore.org/en/node/277424, and I have

I can verify that something about this score is indeed causing that, but I can't tell what. It works fine for a score created from scratch.
I'm not an expert in how the synthesizer works, but one thing I can see in your score is that you have non-standard settings for the MIDI port/channel assignments. Were you messing with those on purpose? I don't see anything off in the Mixer itself, but there is MIDI channel info saved in the file that normally wouldn't be.
Also, you have set your violin sounds to the "slow" variant, so that combined with the very quiet dynamic means the note doesn't have time to sound fully (the "slow" variant is only intended for use in long pad-like passages). You'll probably be happier changing that back to the default - the regular "violin expr." sound.

Thanks, Marc. I've given some additional detail on the other thread (https://musescore.org/en/comment/reply/node/298530).
Good catch on the "slow" violin; I was switching back and forth to see if it helped but got the same results in terms of dynamic contrast between instruments.
