Create automatic placement for custom articulation
I do handbell arrangements for my ensemble, and I'm wondering if there's a way to simplify the placement of the custom articulations that we use. I've created a custom palette no problem, but I'd like to add some automatic placement properties to make my life easier. Basically I want things to behave exactly the same as a standard staccato or accent articulation. Both of those have an Articulation subcategory in the Inspector with various properties I can edit, is there a way to do that with my custom articulations?

How are you adding these? As graphics, as symbols, or as special characters within text? I'd recommend the latter as the approach most likely to produce good results with autoplace. Can you post a sample score?

I am adding them as symbols, I pulled them all from the Master Palette into a custom handbell palette, see the attached screenshot. Example of some of the symbols in use is at measure 73. In actual handbell music they are placed pretty much exactly the same as an accent would be.

Thanks for the info. Symbols normally don't get special autoplace consideration because we don't know how they should be placed. I personally think it should be possible to add a symbol to the palette from your score and have its offset preserved, but this currently isn't supported. But as I suggested above, creating these markings as text instead - staff text, perhaps, or fingering - might produce results more in keeping with what you may expect.

I definitely see why that's the case, there are so many symbols it's impossible to know how they're all used. The two examples in that measure behave like accents, but there are other handbell symbols that are placed differently. If I knew anything about plugins I'd consider making one, but I don't even know if a plugin would be a good solution for that. The text workaround is a good idea, I'll give that a try. Thanks!
