Invisible Empty Staves Part-Way

Is there any way, barring some trickery involving text boxes cleverly placed, to have it so that a staff remains visible despite being empty for up until a particular point in the score, before it no longer appears due to it being empty?

To put it another way, I have a score with a lengthy introduction, and I want all of the instruments (even if empty) to appear. After the introduction, I want the empty staves to go away. Is there any way to do this without hacky workarounds?
