A little issue (playback only)
Hi, gang!!!
I use MuseScore 3.4.1 Portable AppImage in Ubuntu Studio 19.10 (64 bits Linux).
I had an old arrangement of a well-known christian song (see the attachments), made by the old Cakewalk Home Studio 6.02 (1997), and I translated it to MuseScore from that original MIDI file (also included).
With a general (not deeply) view of the piece, almost all is fine, BUT...
When I checked the MuseScore Mixer (to check the MIDI Ports and Channels), I could to see that MuseScore uses different MIDI Ports, with the same MIDI Channel number assignation, with Percussion Set and some other instruments (strings, trumpet). This is because the different sounds we can use and get from these instruments (MIDI patches).
If we use it only with MuseScore to playback the piece..., All is so fine. BUT...
If we want to use it with an external MIDI devices (like my Casio CTK-601 keyboard)... "Houston, we have some problems, here"!!!
As an example:
In this piece, I used three different Percussion Sets: Room, Power and Brush.
In the Mixer, MuseScore assigns it to the MIDI Ports 1, and others (this varies according to the specific SoundFont file we use), all with the same MIDI Channel 10.
With the Internal MuseScore SoundFont player (wrong called as: Synthesizer), we can hear all the sets so fine!
BUT... With the External MIDI Device, we just can hear the Percussion Set assigned to the MIDI Port 1 (because it is the only External MIDI Port used by the system, because I am using only one external MIDI device).
In other words, in the external MIDi device, we can hear only the parts where the Room Percussion Set is used. The other parts of the percussion staff (Power and Brush) are silent.
I thought if I changed the MIDI Port assignation I could fix this. WRONG!!! Now, I can hear all the percussion staff of the piece BUT... With the Room Set sound, only, all over the piece!!!
So...
Why MuseScore don't use a single MIDI Port to assign all the different sounds of some specific MIDI patches?
The standard MIDI language has an specific command to change the Patch of the MIDI channels. I don't know if MuseScore uses that specific command. But... If it uses it... Why to use another MIDI Ports to this? It is not the standard way to change the MIDi channel patches? So... ???
Well... Just an idea.
Blessings and Greetings from Chile!!!
JUAN
