Don't use lyrics for stickings - use actual stickings (Add / Text / Sticking). Then the dynamics will be as you expect. And other things will work more as they should for sticking.

I don't see stickings when I press add-> text, am I missing an update possibly?

You might be missing many updates, that feature was added over a year ago I believe. Try Help / Check for Updates. Current version is 3.4.2.
