Edit Instruments in Score
Hi, is there a way to edit the names of the instruments without losing the music I've already inputted? i.e. I wrote something for woodwind quartet (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon), and I want to change it to Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4. When I go to Edit>Instruments and try to change the names of the instruments, I can't, so I add 3 more flutes and delete the oboe, clar, and bassoon, but then it erases their parts.
Basically I just want to change the score and can't figure out how. Thanks!

It is not entirely clear what you are trying to achieve. However, if you right click on a stave and select stave/part properties, from the dialogue you can do the following, one or both of which may get you where you want to be.
a) change the instrument so that it will then have the correct transposition and sound for the newly chosen instrument.
b) edit the long and short instrument names.

If you need more help, upload your score and explain exactly what you want to end up with. There are many experienced users reading here who can provide more and better advice than I can.

I don't really know how to be any clearer.
The instrumentation of the score is 4 staves: Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon.
I want to change (rename) the instrumentation to Flute 1, Flute 2, Flute 3, Flute 4.

And thank you for your reply! I appreciate it.

UPDATE: I figured it out. I highlighted an empty space in the first measure, hit control-click, selected Staff/Part Properties, and then from there it's obvious.
