Midi wind instruments with MuseScore

• Jul 30, 2020 - 01:16

Hi,
I am a sax player that is new to using MuseScore. I am kind of clumsy with the piano (for now) but I would like to capture my improvisation in MuseScore to tweak it there and provide it as part of my arrangements (my sax players are not used to soloing outside of a blues scale or it has to be written down).

So I was thinking about one of those midi wind instruments but do they work in MuseScore before I plunk that cash down?

Thank you in advance!

They might and should as long as they have a somewhat decent driver.

Note though that for real-time input, MuseScore likely isn't the best choice to start with. There's only a slight chance you'll be able to correctly play to the metronome whilst improvising. You might want to look into sequencer programs more oriented towards real-time capture and quantization and then export MusicXML or MIDI from there to import into MuseScore for turning it into good sheet music.
