Help with Drumset Sounds

• Oct 30, 2020 - 15:14

I am fairly new with learning more about Musescore and I have a situation. I am trying to write a piece and I would like for their to be 4 percussion lines on the score: Mallet Percussion, Percussion 1, Percussion 2 and Timpani. However, I would also like to have multiple instruments on a line - for example having the mallet line switch from Marimba to Vibes and also define an instrument sound for each line in Percussion 1&2 lines. I have tried to use a drum set and define the lines but I can't choose the sound! Help appreciated!

When a musician is required to double on a different instrument for a section of a piece, see:

...and also define an instrument sound for each line in Percussion 1&2 lines.
For non-pitched percussion sounds (snare, cymbal, wood block, etc.), see:

What type of sound(s) are you looking for in a drumset?
What's the procedure that you attempt?

For Percussion 1, I am looking to do snare and bass drum which isn't the problem - I have accomplished that. I want to also add wind chimes, triangle and cymbals together (concert instruments).
However, I added the Drumset to the instruments and hit the "add notes button", then went to the "edit Drumset", then I went try to define my own Drumset sounds by line - couldn't do it.
Then I went to the mixer and found that I could choose a different kit - but I didn't find any kits with what I need and would like the flexibility to make one.
Thanks for your help!

The virtual piano keyboard (press P to view it) lets you hear the available percussion sounds so that you know what sound maps to which pitch - helpful when you edit your drumset.

Please experiment with this score (while viewing the virtual piano):
Percussion.mscz
It has triangle, different cymbals, wind chime.

You will notice that the triangle sound is note A5 on the virtual piano when you play the score (or if you click the piano key). That's the information that you need in order to find it in the Edit Drumset dialog.
To populate your drumset, you choose among all the sounds that are available. So, click on an unassigned sound that you want, enter a name for it, set its position on the staff line, select what type of notehead, and even assign a shortcut to use when entering it into your score.
